Contract Signed for NR5 Serey Sophorn – Poipet & Construction to Begin Next Month

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) has signed an agreement granting the right to two Japanese companies to build the NR5 Serey Sophorn-Poipet section, the fourth package of the whole project.

The signing ceremony took place on Thursday 24 March under the authority of MPWT Minister HE Sun Chanthol.

Two firms receiving construction contracts are Construction Corporation No.1 and Civil Engineering Construction Corporation No.6, while the actual construction is set to begin next month.

NR5 Serey Sophorn-Poipet is 35km and will be built with a budget of US$52 million, taking 32 months to be completed.

This is the fourth package of the NR5 rehabilitation project from Prek Kdam to Poipet, using a US$500-million concessional loan from the Japanese government.

Besides this package, MPWT will soon sign the contract to build six weighing stations along the road to complete the whole project upgrading project.

The 84km Battambang-Serey Sophorn section of NR5 was officially inaugurated on 10 January. (Read more)
