Cambodia Seeks Support from China to Establish a Natural Resource Data Management Centre

In a pivotal move, the National Assembly of Cambodia has extended a proposal to the Standing Committee of the Guangxi Provincial People’s Congress in the People’s Republic of China to establish a natural resource management data center aimed at enhancing the development of vital fish and rice corridors. This transformative initiative was discussed during a significant meeting between HE Dr Cheam Yeap, Acting President of the National Assembly, and HE Fang Chunming, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Guangxi Provincial People’s Congress on 4 December 2023.

The discussions not only underscored a commitment to fostering a community of shared destiny but also outlined strategic plans to boost bilateral trade in the coming years. Furthermore, HE Dr. Cheam Yeap specifically sought Guangxi’s support in establishing a state-of-the-art data center dedicated to natural resource management. This initiative is particularly significant as Guangxi boasts a robust data management system for trade and logistics with Southeast Asia. The friendly links established between Guangxi and other Cambodian provinces, notably key locations like Kampong Thom, add strategic significance to the proposal.

Additionally, the meeting witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two sides, focusing on the construction of a groundbreaking Cambodian-Chinese industrial park in Beijing.
