UAE Eyes Investment in Cambodia’s Infrastructure & Ports

A delegation from Abu Dhabi Ports met with senior officials from Cambodia’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport today to explore investment opportunities aimed at enhancing the nation’s infrastructure and logistics capabilities, particularly in the realms of land and water transport, including port development.

The high-profile meeting featured HE Heng Non, Secretary of State for the Ministry, and Mr. Ghazi Masmoudi, Director of International Business Development at Abu Dhabi Ports. Both parties engaged in fruitful discussions about potential partnerships that could significantly elevate Cambodia’s logistics capacity, aligning with the country’s ambitious plans for comprehensive transport infrastructure.

The UAE delegation expressed keen interest in collaborating across various sectors, including railways, waterways, and warehousing. This engagement is part of Cambodia’s strategic transport master plan, which envisions integrating multiple transport modes—roads, railways, waterways, and air travel—into a unified strategy. The goal is to position Cambodia as a high-income nation by 2050.

In his remarks, HE Heng Non emphasised Cambodia’s commitment to undertaking 174 significant transport infrastructure projects over the next decade. These include 94 road development initiatives, 23 river transport projects, 20 maritime ventures, 10 air transport projects, as well as general logistics initiatives comprising 15 gas pipeline projects and an additional four related projects. The total investment required to realise these ambitious goals is approximately USD 36.7 billion.

The discussions also underscored the potential for deepening relations between Cambodia and the UAE, focusing on a cooperative approach to meet evolving infrastructure needs while driving sustainable economic growth. With the 2033 deadline looming for critical infrastructure developments, Cambodia is actively seeking international partnerships to accelerate its transformation into a regional transportation hub.

As the country moves forward, the partnership with the UAE represents a significant step towards realising these vital infrastructure aspirations, promising to enhance connectivity and foster economic development across the region.
