Japanese Aquaculture Company Explores Collaboration Opportunities with Cambodia

 

In a significant development for the aquaculture sector, Regional Fish Institute, Ltd., a Japanese company renowned for its expertise in aquaculture, is actively seeking collaboration opportunities with relevant Cambodian institutions. This initiative was discussed during a meeting on 1 April 2025, between HE Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and Mr. Shun Ishimoto, Executive Director (Overseas Business) and Head of Operations and Production of Regional Fish Institute, Ltd.

The meeting provided a platform for the company to present its mission, vision, and extensive operational history, aimed at exploring potential partnerships that could foster advancements in Cambodia’s aquaculture industry.

Regional Fish Institute, Ltd. specialises in employing cutting-edge biotechnology to enhance productivity, research and develop new fish varieties, and elevate quality standards to meet the rigorous demands of the export market. Their commitment extends beyond production; the company focuses on conducting research, transferring technology, and disseminating knowledge on modern aquaculture practices, emphasizing regional sustainability.

In response to the company’s proposals, HE Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol suggested a collaborative research initiative to deepen understanding of advanced biotechnology in aquaculture. He emphasised the importance of working closely with relevant professional institutions, particularly the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, to ensure compliance with established standards and to safeguard Cambodia’s rich biodiversity.

This potential collaboration marks a positive step towards enhancing Cambodia’s aquaculture capabilities while promoting sustainable practices in the industry.
