MPWT Minister Meets with Korean Ambassador & Related Firms to Accelerate NR2 & 22 Construction

The Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol has met with a delegation from the Republic of Korea and other stakeholders to resolve issues and accelerate the implementation of the long-delayed NR2 & 22 renovation project.

The meeting was held on 6 October with the participation of the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Cambodia HE Park Heung-Kyeong, Director of EDCF Ms. Minnie Chey, and representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Hanshin Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd, Dasan Constructions Co., Ltd, Dong II Engineering Consultants Co., Ltd, and Seoyoung Engineering Co., Ltd Joint Venture.

During the meeting, both parties discussed the challenges that had arisen and sought solutions together.

The meeting also requested additional recommendations in order to speed up the implementation of the project.

HE Sun Chanthol said that the construction company must not allow all the challenges to affect the implementation of the project.

The construction of this road has been delayed as the construction company did not have enough machinery and manpower. Besides, after testing, MPWT also found some parts that are of poor quality.

MPWT ordered the construction firms to fix it and set an overall completion deadline for August. However, this deadline was not delivered.

NR2 has a total length of 62.56 km from Takhmao roundabout to Daun Keo roundabout in Takeo province and NR22 has a total length of 9.61 km from Daun Keo roundabout to Ang Ta Som, NR3. (Read more)

With ground broken in early 2020, both projects are being built under a US$56 million budget, which is jointly financed by the South Korean government and the Cambodian government budget.
