Government Approves New Eco-Tourism Investment Project on Nearly 2,000 Hectares in Koh Kong

The Ministry of Environment and the Koh Kong Provincial Administration have given permission to a private company to invest in a new eco-tourism project on 1843 hectares located in Ta Tai Kraom and Kaoh Kapi commune, Koh Kong district of Koh Kong province.

According to a site inspection on 15 June 2022, this investment project is located in a natural protected area, which covers 1021 hectares in Peam Krasaop Wildlife Sanctuary and 789 hectares of Ta Tai Wildlife Sanctuary.

The proposed sites have some existing roads which could connect to other tourism destinations in the areas.

As a result, both authorities have decided to let the company develop infrastructures for eco-tourism on only 15% of the total land and organise it in an environmentally friendly manner with eco-lodges between trees while cutting any mangrove forest is strictly forbidden.

In addition, the company needs to study, research and plan for the conservation of biodiversity, including mangrove resources in investment sites, and develop good practice templates for the development of eco-tourism in islands and coastal areas.

Reminding that on May 17, a 308-hectare eco-tourism development investment project in Sre Ambel district, Koh Kong province was also approved in principle. (Read more)
