US$300-million tire factory in Sihanoukville SEZ inaugurates officially

The US$-300 million tire factory has officially inaugurated with a production capacity of about 1.3 million tires per year.

The inauguration ceremony of the factory was held under the presidency of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia on May 22.

Invested by General Tire Technology (Cambodia) Co., Ltd, the factory equips modern technology in accordance with the policy of industrial development of Cambodia, a high value-added industry.

The plant will consume nearly 5,000 tonnes of local natural rubber raw materials per year, which could help boost Cambodia’s natural rubber market, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said.

“Cambodia wants to attract industrial investment that uses local raw materials such as rubber, cashew nut which generates jobs for local people and brings new modern technology to Cambodia which is in line with the Industrial Policy,” he said.

Being the large factory in investment amount in the SSEZ, the plant can produce tires and employ about 1,150 workers.

The General Thai Technology (Cambodia) Co., Ltd is the second tire factory after the first tire factory in Bavet City, Svay Rieng Province. The third tire factory has recently broke ground for its construction in Kratie province. (Read more)
