Environment Ministry Pledges to Enhance Groundwater Infrastructure System

The Ministry of Environment is committed to continuing to improve the management of the groundwater infrastructure system, especially in the cross-border area in the Mekong Delta between Vietnam and Cambodia, according to an online meeting of relevant officials on Tuesday.

The objective of the meeting was to gather inputs from all relevant sectors to enable better implementation.

Project Manager HE Chuob Paris said that the project is designed to strengthen environmental sustainability and water security in the Lower Mekong Basin.

“The project will include five key components. First, the team will scientifically analyse and evaluate the inflow and outflow of groundwater in the Mekong basin as well as the impact on ecosystems and people’s livelihoods,” said HE Paris.

The next step is to solve all the challenges through the implementation of pilot projects. We will also establish cross-border management mechanisms, and then develop a joint strategic plan between Cambodia and Vietnam. Meanwhile, the final step is building strong institutional capacity and cooperation between the two nations,” he added.
