France Helps Rehabilitate 15 Canals in Kandal & Construct Irrigation Systems in Other Provinces

Through the French Development Agency (AFD) in Cambodia, France has helped improve and completely rehabilitate 15 canals in Kandal province and built major irrigation systems in some provinces from 2019 to the present.

This is according to a meeting between HE Lim Keanhor, Minister of Water Resource and Meteorology, and Ms Sandrine Boucher, the new director of AFD on 13 June 2022.

Under the Water Resources Management and Agro-ecological Transition for Cambodia (WAT4CAM) Program, the working group is constructing the Kanghot Irrigation Block A+B in Battambang, which is 30% complete, and 11% of the Sakrach and Ou Kambor Irrigation in Preah Vihear.

In addition, three of the sub-projects above have been bid on and the other six sub-projects are in the process of bidding.

In the meeting, the new director of AFD, Ms Sandrine Boucher replacing Ms Ophile Bourhis, has committed herself to continue to work on water resources and meteorology to promote agriculture in Cambodia.

Both parties have focused on developing irrigation hegemony projects for the second phase, which will be implemented in various provinces including Siem Reap, Oddar Meanchey, Battambang, Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Tbong Khmum, Kandal, and Kampong Speu.
