Germany and Cambodia Strengthen Ties to Enhance Infrastructure Development

In a significant step forward for Cambodia’s industrial growth and international trade, Germany has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the development of quality infrastructure in the country. This commitment was highlighted during a meeting between HE Hem Vandy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, and a delegation from the German National Institute for Materials Science (PTB).

Minister Hem Vandy acknowledged that the PTB has been a vital partner for Cambodia since 2018, particularly in assisting the Cambodian National Center for Materials Science. “The support we receive from Germany is instrumental as we enhance our measurement systems through laboratory accreditation and institutional reforms,” he stated. He emphasized the necessity of innovative methods to provide materials science services, particularly in rural areas, to match the rapid growth of factories and enterprises throughout Cambodia.

Mr. Windecker from the PTB underlined the importance of Germany as Cambodia’s largest bilateral partner in the quality infrastructure sector. “A credible and internationally recognized standards system is crucial as Cambodia prepares to graduate from Least Developed Country status,” he remarked.

Both parties expressed a strong desire to continue collaborating in pursuit of a fully recognized measurement system and the establishment of a National Quality Infrastructure (NQI) policy. This initiative aims to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) while bolstering Cambodia’s integration into regional and global markets.

As Cambodia gears up for a transformative era in its industrial landscape, the continued partnership with Germany promises to pave the way for sustainable economic development and enhanced trade opportunities.
