Government Spends Over US$790,000 Building Quarantine Centre in Phnom Penh

The Cambodian government has allocated approximately US$790,000 for the construction of six buildings as a quarantine centre in Phnom Penh for Khmer people travelling from abroad.

The quarantine project consists of six buildings covering nearly one hectare of land in Phsar Lech Village, Prek Pnov commune of Prek Pnov district. Began in September, the construction of these six buildings is scheduled to complete before the end of 2020.

Upon completion, the buildings can accommodate up to 800 people. This new quarantine centre will replace the current quarantine centres, which uses public school rooms and hotels to accommodate both foreign and Cambodian travellers entering Cambodia.

HE York Sambath, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Health, told reporters during a visit last week to inspect the progress of the construction that centre will be used for Cambodians from abroad to practice quarantine while foreigners have to stay at hotels.
