Government to Shutdown Non-compliant Construction Sites in Sihanoukville Province

The government is to revoke construction licenses and completely close down construction sites in Sihanoukville Province that failed to comply with the guidelines, especially those along the coastal area.

On 26 September, 2018, H.E Pen Sophal, secretary of state for the Ministry of Land Management Urban Planning and Construction (MLMUPC), told the Cambodian Peace Channel (CPC) that the ministry will revoke construction licenses from non-compliant construction sites.

These guidelines include: 1) Having a properly built fence surrounding the construction site of at least 2 metres high 2) Leaving a big sidewalk around the construction site 3) Construction material and equipments must be kept properly and the site must have appropriate accommodation for workers within the fence 4) Adjusting the construction in accordance with the permit license and technical standards and 5) Installing proper toilets, drainage systems and waste water treatment in order to effective manage solid and liquid waste.

Sihanoukville Province over the past years has seen a sharp increase in construction projects throughout the entire city which have in some cases impacted on the environment due to inappropriate management.

Currently, H.E Pen Sophal and his team are inspecting all construction sites in Sihanoukville to inform all about construction safety as well as laws and regulations related to the functioning of construction sites.
