Gov’t Permits International Companies to Invest 100% in Phnom Penh-Ho Chi Minh Express Railway

The Royal Government of Cambodia has urged French businesses to invest in the construction of high-speed railways and transportation in Cambodia, announcing that foreign businesses will be allowed to invest 100% in the Phnom Penh-Ho Chi Minh high-speed rail line. 

Prime Minister of Cambodia Samdech Hun Sen on 25 January welcomed and informed the French investment delegation that Cambodia has allowed 100% international investment in the new high-speed railway from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City while the other two existing railways need to be expanded and encouraged private sector investment through the BOT scheme. 

Olivier Becht, Minister for Foreign Trade, Attractiveness and French Nationals Abroad, said that the French investment delegation was confident of investing in Cambodia. French investors also agreed to look into investment opportunities on high-speed rail, inland waterways and airways, construction, energy and other sectors. 

Cambodia started from zero after the Khmer rouge regime and broke a record of economic growth of about 7% for 20 years. Cambodia also continues to reform and provides a more favourable investment environment as well, he added.
