Gov’t Designates Over 3,000 Hectares of Land in Prey Veng Province as Mixed-Use Protected Area

The Cambodian government has designated over 3,000 hectares of land in 4 districts of Prey Veng province as a mixed-use protected area, according to Sub-Decree No.16 and No.17 dated 05 February 2021.

Located across parts of Prey Veng City, and Svay Antor, Peam Ro and Ba Phnum districts, the area is known as Toul Taley Beoung Sne and will be divided into two main areas. The core area covers 86 hectares of land, while the sustainable usage area spreads on more than 3,000 hectares.

The objective of the mixed-use protected area is to maintain and protect the natural beauty, ecosystem, biodiversity, environment and culture of the area.

Last month, the government also designated two natural mountains with a total area of 108.44 hectares in Kampot as natural heritage sites to protect their ecosystems. (Read more)
