Gov’t Requests Singaporean Firms to Conduct Feasibility Study for New Landfill in Phnom Penh

The Ministry of Environment (MoE) has requested two Singaporean firms, Infrastructure Asia (IA) and Singapore Corporation Enterprise (SCE), to help study and develop a masterplan for a new landfill project in Phnom Penh, according to a video conference on 24 February.

Secretary of State of the MoE HE Sao Sopheap said in the meeting that the MoE has been actively implementing the new waste management policy in Phnom Penh.

Given the new policy, MoE is also considering building a new regional landfill that is equipped with waste sorting machines and modern waste treatment technology.

Besides the request for the feasibility study, the MoE together with two companies also agreed to hold joint training courses and considered the possibility of organising a field trip to observe the waste management system in Singapore.

Last year, a Japanese firm also proposed establishing a waste-to-energy plant and liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage stations in Cambodia. (Read more)
