40km of NR4 expanded to 4 lanes

Ministry of Public Works and Transport is expanding a 40km section of NR4 from 2 to 4 lanes, while over 150km other will be widened to 10m.

Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol said on 23 February that NR4 was only 7m wide. With a US$110-million loan budget from World Bank, the road will be widened further.

The budget is divided into seven packages. Five packages will fund the construction of the road, while the other two packages will be used for the construction of bridges along the road.

“150km out of 196 km will be widened to 10m while the other 40 km will be widened from two lanes to four lanes,” said HE Chanthol.

“170km of the roads would be completed by the end of 2023, and another 26km will be completed in 2024,” he added.

Moreover, 24 old bridges will be widened to 10 meters wide, and eight new bridges will be newly. 32 bridges are scheduled for completion in 2025. (Read more)

The project also repairs four weighing stations to ensure effective enforcement of overweight regulations.
