HE Sun Chanthol: Fake News on Cambodia’s Investment Climate Affects Foreign Investors’ Interests

One of the pivotal topics of discussion during the visit of HE Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister & CDC 1st Vice-Chairman, to Zhejiang SEZs in Sihanoukville on 11 September 2023 was the management’s concerns, particularly among Chinese staff, regarding the circulation of fake news about security in Cambodia. Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol emphasised the importance of dispelling such misinformation, as it can deter foreign investors from exploring opportunities in Cambodia.

Addressing this issue, HE Sun Chanthol urged both the public and private sectors to collaborate in combatting fake news. He emphasised the need to effectively communicate the strengths of Cambodia’s investment climate, its investment laws, and the nation’s political and macroeconomic stability.

HE Sun Chanthol underscored Cambodia’s commitment to fostering an open investment environment, stating, “Our investment climate is among the best because we do not discriminate between national or international investors. Unlike some countries that impose restrictions on foreign investment in specific sectors, Cambodia welcomes foreign investment across all sectors, with the exception of land ownership.”

This strategic expansion of SEZs and the government’s proactive stance in attracting foreign investors highlight Cambodia’s dedication to becoming a regional hub for international business.
