MISTI Achieves Over 1.8bn Cubic Metres of Clean Water Produced Nationwide – An Increase of 61% Only in Five Years

In a remarkable achievement for the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MISTI), the state has produced over 1.8 billion cubic metres of clean water in the last five years (2018-2022), showcasing a notable 61% increase compared to the preceding five years (2013-2017). These figures have been released in a brief report on the work activities carried out by the ministry during the period.

The state’s commitment to providing clean water to its citizens is evident as 1,184,528 families, which is equivalent to a staggering 5,922,640 individuals, are now connected to and utilising clean water. Moreover, a notable 77,382 impoverished families have been given subsidies for clean water connections.

During the last five years, the state has undertaken an extensive clean water distribution project, which has resulted in a total of 30,506km of a clean water distribution network being connected nationwide, allowing more citizens to access clean water.

In the capital Phnom Penh, the state has signed a contract with landlords to set a fair price of 700 Riel per m3 for clean water. Landlords are then able to sell clean water to their tenants, such as workers and students, at a reasonable price of 800 Riel per m3. In Phnom Penh alone, the state has connected 4,990 houses and buildings, including 107 rooms for rent and 869 individual rooms.

These impressive achievements by the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, showcase the state’s commitment to providing clean water to its citizens and creating a healthier, more prosperous community.
