Japan Begins Implementing Four Smart Projects in Siem Reap City

Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT), and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have signed an agreement to begin implementing four major projects in Siem Reap city, following the master plan to transform this ancient town into a smart city.

According to a meeting between the two parties with the Siem Reap Provincial Administration on Monday 30 August, MLIT and JICA will be responsible for two projects each.

JICA will implement two projects, including the Smart Parking System in Siem Reap project that will operate using CCTV image data, and the Smart Scooter pilot project. The implementation will begin in October.

Meanwhile, MLIT will implement two projects including the Smart City Data Collection and Analysis project, and CCTV System Introduction. Through these, a large-scale security camera network will be soon installed across downtown Siem Reap.

MLIT will begin the work immediately by sending their team to do a site inspection and study despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
