Japan Finances Us$43 Million Development Projects in Cambodia

The government of Japan signed an Exchange of Notes with the government of Cambodia on 20 February to provide US$43 million in financing for two development projects in Cambodia.

The agreement was signed between H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and H.E. Horinouchi Hidehisa, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The financial aid comprises of two parts including a loan worth approximately US$31.56 million for the West Tonle Sap Irrigation and Drainage Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (II), and a grant aid worth approximately US$11.8 million for the development of a Port Electric Interchange (EDI) System for Port Modernisation.

This loan and grant aid package has been extended by the government of Japan to the Royal Government of Cambodia with a view to further promoting the economic and social development of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
