Japan Extends Lifeline to Cambodia’s Health Sector with Nearly US$200k Investment in Two Provinces

In a significant step towards bolstering Cambodia’s healthcare infrastructure, Japan has committed a generous sum of US$198,785 for two pivotal projects in Siem Reap and Preah Vihear provinces. The announcement was made during the signing ceremony of the KUSANONE grant project at the Embassy of Japan on 8 February 2024.

The allocated funds comprise a US$71,137 grant for enhancing prosthetics and physical therapy equipment at the Siem Reap Rehabilitation Centre and a US$126,648 project earmarked for the construction of a new hospital building at Vieng Health Centre in Preah Vihear.

Mr Mom Sothara, Deputy Director of the Disability Fund, expressed optimism about the impact of the grant. He highlighted that the infusion of funds would facilitate the installation of 12 types of prosthetics and rehabilitation equipment at the Siem Reap Rehabilitation Centre. The overarching goal is to enhance rehabilitation services, ultimately improving the quality of life and social integration for individuals with disabilities.

This latest initiative builds on the success of the KUSANONE grant project by the Embassy of Japan, which has already played a pivotal role in supporting four rehabilitation centres in Kratie, Takeo, Prey Veng, and Kien Khleang.
