Japan Eyes Major Investment in Battambang, With Advanced Technology Capable of Converting 1 Ton of Waste to 700 Litres of Oil

Sougo Tatemono Service Inc. from Japan has expressed a strong interest in transforming Battambang province’s plastic waste into fuel oil, showcasing a breakthrough technology that converts 1 ton of pure plastic into 600 to 700 litres of oil. The company’s representatives introduced this technology in a meeting with Battambang’s Governor, HE Sok Loo, and the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia in Battambang on 13 September 2023.

The modern machine, presented as a game changer for waste management, can process up to 30 tons of garbage daily, offering a long-term solution with a lifespan of 20 to 30 years.

In the meeting, Sougo Tatemono Service Inc. shared that mixed waste could also be converted, producing between 200 and 300 litres of oil per ton. The oil generated can be utilized directly in the machine or refined into diesel, gasoline, and other fuels, boosting local energy production.

HE Sok Loo fully supported the project, indicating that such innovations align with his vision for Battambang as a future “Smart City.” This initiative is vital to improving waste management while contributing to economic development and environmental sustainability.

Battambang is home to a recently inaugurated, large-scale standard landfill located in Poi Svay village, capable of handling over 310,000 cubic metres of waste for the next decade (2022-2032). This facility currently serves the province and nearby districts, providing a significant infrastructure foundation for the proposed recycling project.

Japan’s interest in this investment highlights Battambang’s growing potential as a hub for sustainable innovation, with promising impacts on the local economy and the environment. (Read more)
