Japanese Ship to Make Historic First Docking at Cambodia’s New Ream Port

Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, confirmed that a Japanese ship will be the first vessel to dock at the newly inaugurated Ream Port. This historic event underscores the growing cooperation between Cambodia and Japan, particularly in security and infrastructure development. The commitment was made during a meeting with HE Akiba Takeo, Japan’s National Security Adviser, on 20 December 2024.

During the discussions, Samdech Techo expressed heartfelt gratitude for Japan’s unwavering support of Cambodia’s development since its independence. He highlighted the strengthened ties between the two nations, particularly in areas of land and naval defense, reflecting a shared commitment to regional security and development.

Ream Port’s completion coincides with a wave of transformative projects in the Ream Beach area, including a USD 41 million international-standard golf course set to open in 2025. Furthermore, the area is poised for a massive transformation under the USD 16 billion Ream Development Project by Canopy Sands Development. This ambitious venture will revitalise 834 hectares of coastal land, promising to establish the region as a hub for luxury tourism, commercial activity, and world-class recreational facilities.
