Japan’s Household Giant Lion Corporation Eyes Cambodia for Major Manufacturing Plant Investment

Cambodia is steadily cementing its reputation as one of Southeast Asia’s most attractive investment destinations, a status further reinforced by the keen interest of major Japanese multinational giants. In a high-profile development, a senior executive delegation from Japan’s renowned consumer goods giant, Lion Corporation, officially expressed its intention to conduct a comprehensive study on establishing a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Cambodia. This exciting prospect was revealed during a productive business meeting on July 13, 2026, between the corporate delegation and HE Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Committee of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), at the council’s headquarters in Phnom Penh.

Leading the Japanese delegation, Takenobu Yamamoto, the Director of International Business, shared that the decision to pursue detailed studies for a Cambodian facility was inspired by the country’s immense economic potential and increasingly favorable investment climate. While Lion Corporation already operates highly successful production hubs in Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia, a physical expansion into Cambodia is seen as the perfect next step to optimize the company’s regional supply chain and serve growing local demand.

As a titan in the consumer goods industry, Lion Corporation has earned widespread trust across Asia. Originally founded in Japan in 1891 and established in its modern unified corporate structure in 1981, the global household name specializes in a diverse range of premium personal care and hygiene products. Its world-class portfolio includes everyday essentials such as shampoo, laundry detergent, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and various other beauty and hygiene items. Establishing a local factory in Cambodia would not only bring these trusted products closer to Cambodian consumers but would also create vital employment and technology-sharing opportunities within the country.

In response, HE Chea Vuthy warmly welcomed the Japanese delegation and expressed sincere appreciation to Lion Corporation for considering Cambodia as its next investment destination. He outlined the Royal Government of Cambodia’s tireless and continuous efforts to upgrade the domestic business ecosystem through large-scale infrastructure development and the introduction of highly attractive support measures for the private sector. These initiatives are specifically designed to bolster Cambodia’s regional competitiveness amidst shifting global economic dynamics.

To help turn this plan into reality as quickly as possible, HE Chea Vuthy urged the corporation to make a prompt decision. He encouraged them to select a strategic site and strongly consider locating the new factory within one of Cambodia’s advanced Special Economic Zones. These specialized economic zones are equipped with world-class logistics support, simplified administrative services, and a business-friendly environment tailored for multinational enterprises looking to seamlessly integrate into regional networks.
