S. Korea Mulls Building Waste-to-Energy Plant in Cambodia

The Republic of Korea has sought support from Cambodia’s Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen on the plan to build a waste-to-energy power plant in Cambodia. 

The request was made by HE Park Heung Kyeong, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Cambodia, during a courtesy call on 19 December. 

The project is an investment by a private firm EcoChem, but the details of the project are yet to be revealed. 

During the meeting, PM Hun Sen requested HE Sok Chenda Sophea, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister and Secretary General of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, to continue working with HE Suy Sem, Minister of Mines and Energy and Phnom Penh Capital Hall on this project proposal. 

PM Hun Sen also mentioned that the Cambodia-Korea Friendship Bridge is a message confirming the good relations between the two countries, Cambodia and Korea. 

South Korea has provided more than US$245 million in loans for constructing the Cambodia-Korea Friendship Bridge (Old Market – Chroy Changvar, Chroy Changvar – Arey Ksat). (Read more)
