Kuwait Mulls Investing in Energy and Highway Construction in Cambodia

The newly appointed Ambassador of Kuwait to Cambodia HE Mohamad SSHS Alhajri has expressed interest in investing in the energy sector and the construction of expressways in Cambodia. 

The proposal was raised during a meeting between HE Mohamad SSHS Alhajri and Cambodia’s Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce HE Kem Sithon on 30 November 30, 2023. 

HE Mohamad SSHS Alhajri expressed his strong will to enhance cooperation in trade and investment, especially in the areas related to energy supply  and the construction of highways. 

At the same time, HE Kem Sithon also highlighted the new laws, policies, and new physical infrastructure that help facilitate business and investment activities in Cambodia including the new investment law, bilateral and ASEAN frameworks, and SEZ, among other infrastructure projects such as airports and deep-sea ports. 

HE Mohamad SSHS Alhajri also requested the two countries to continue implementing and using the existing agreements and MoU in all sectors. 

He also proposed to examine the possibility of organising joint trade fairs and business forums that can help increase the volume of bilateral trade and investment. 

The current bilateral trade volume between Cambodia and Kuwait has reached about US$640,000 as of October 2022 on major goods such as garments and textiles, tobacco, travel products, machinery and electrical equipment, polymers of ethylene, glass, among others.
