US$1.4bn Waste-to-Hydrogen Plant Planned to Be Built in Oman

A waste-to-hydrogen plant with an investment value of US$14 billion is to be built in Oman. Once completed, it will be able to generate 67,000 tons of green hydrogen annually.

US-based hydrogen generation and storage company H2-Industries has already signed an MoU with Madayn (Public Establishment For Industrial Estates) for this power project already, according to Power Engineering International.

The US$1.4 billion facilities will be built on a 200,000sqm coastal site and will include a 300MW solar PV installation and 70MW of energy storage.

The facility will be able to convert up to 4 million tons of solid municipal waste annually. This will result in the production of 67,000 tons of green hydrogen with an export value of over $268 million.

According to H2-Industries, a waste-to-hydrogen project such as this offers great benefits by promoting efficient waste management, as waste will be sourced from landfills and waste management operators.
