Luxembourg Donates €2 million to Cambodia for Demining Activities

Luxembourg has provided €2 million to support mine clearance activities in Cambodia, marking a significant step towards enhancing the safety and livelihoods of communities affected by landmines. This announcement was made in a press release by the Cambodian Mine Action Authority on 31 March 2025.

The formal signing of the grant agreement occurred on 1 April 2025, in the presence of notable dignitaries, including HE Lee Thuc, Minister for Special Missions and First Vice President, His Royal Highness Prince Guillaume Jean Joseph Marie, Crown Prince of Luxembourg, and Ms. Alissar Chaker, the Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Cambodia.

The Landmine Authority is confident that Luxembourg’s contribution will enhance mine clearance efforts, improve services for individuals with disabilities through rehabilitation centres, and strengthen national capacities to manage and respond to the collection of remaining munitions.

In addition, on 31 March 2025, the Japanese government announced a contribution of 1.466 million yen, equivalent to nearly 11 million US dollars, to support the Cambodian Mine Action Center (CMAC) in two key projects: 1. Strengthening CMAC’s capacity for South-South cooperation under the Economic and Social Development Program, and 2. Supporting the construction of a training building and a war awareness facility (Techo Peace Museum) at the Cambodian Mine Action Center. (Read more)
