MPWT Announces Three-Year Closure of Xi Jinping Boulevard for Bridge Construction

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport has revealed plans for a significant three-year closure of Xi Jinping Boulevard, part of the 3rd Ring Road, starting September 1, 2025. This closure will facilitate the construction of the new bridge across the Mekong River, known as the Dei Khiet-Thoma Kor bridge.

The ministry informed the public that the affected section of Xi Jinping Boulevard will be closed to all vehicle traffic from the intersection of Road 116 A (km 2+800) to National Road 1. This closure is set to commence at 7:00 AM on September 1, 2025, and will last until February 1, 2028.

Currently, the bridge project, located between Dei Khiet commune in Kien Svay district and Thoma Kor commune in Lvea Em district, has completed approximately 20% of its construction. To ensure continued traffic flow during the construction period, the ministry has established temporary traffic diversions:

  1. Light vehicles will be directed to use Road 116 A.
  2. Heavy vehicles are advised to travel via Road 12 A.
  3. National Road 1 will remain open and unaffected by the construction.

It’s important to note that the 3rd Ring Road, inaugurated in January 2019, spans nearly 38 kilometers through Kandal province and approximately 15 kilometers through Phnom Penh. The road provides vital connectivity, linking various national roads and crossing the Bassac River, significantly enhancing the region’s transportation infrastructure.

As construction progresses, authorities urge the public to remain patient and comply with traffic regulations to ensure safety and efficiency during the project. Further updates will be provided as the project unfolds.
