MPWT: No Official Confirmation from S. Korea on Chroy Chongvar-Svay Chrom Bridge

Although local news outlets are claiming that the South Korean President has confirmed helping Cambodia build Chroy Chongvar–Svay Chrom bridge, a Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MWPT)’s spokesman has said that the ministry has yet to receive any official documents from South Korea regarding the project.

MWPT spokesman HE Va Simsorya told Construction & Property Magazine on 20 November that, “It [agreement to help build the bridge] is a statement from the South Korean side, but we [the ministry] do not have official information from KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency).”

“All we know is that the Korean side is still studying the project, but we do not know the exact location nor the total costs yet,” he added.

In July, the South Korean Ambassador to Cambodia said that the Korean government is currently studying the bridge project proposed by PM Samdech Hun Sen earlier this year. However, as yet, no further details have been revealed by the Korean side. (Read more)
