Gov’t Prioritises 50C Road & Cambodia’s Longest Bridge Project Crossing Tonle Sap River in 2024

In a strategic move poised to redefine Cambodia’s infrastructure landscape, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) has earmarked the construction of the National Road 50C, a pivotal link between Kampong Chhnang and Kampong Thom, for commencement in 2024. This announcement was made at the culmination of the MPWT’s annual meeting on 29 February 2024, emphasising the government’s commitment to bolstering national connectivity and economic growth.

HE Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister & First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, underscored the project’s significance, aligning it with a mandate from Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet, who has identified this infrastructure venture as a keystone initiative for the year. “This endeavour holds paramount importance for our national development agenda; hence, its swift progression to the construction phase is crucial,” he explained.

Spanning an estimated 62 kilometres, this ambitious project promises to forge a vital artery between Kampong Leng district in Kampong Chhnang province and National Road 6A in Sroyov commune, Stung Sen city, Kampong Thom province. Furthermore, it will feature a landmark bridge crossing over the Tonle Sap River, anticipated to be the country’s longest at approximately 3.3 kilometres, symbolising a notable engineering feat and fostering unprecedented connectivity.
