MPWT to Build EV Charging Stations on PP-SHV Expressway & 15 Others Nationwide

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) plans to establish at least 15 electric vehicle charging stations on the PP-SHV expressway and other potential spots nationwide to boost the usage of EVs in Cambodia.

This project was discussed in a meeting between MPWT Minister HE Sun Chanthol and delegation of the Cambodian Automobile Industry Federation led by its president Tan Monivann on 24 January.

The meeting was also joined by large-scale car distributors in Cambodia such as Mercedes and HGB group.

During the meeting, HE Sun Chanthol encouraged the federation and all companies to help each other import and promote the usage of more EVs, while the ministry is also preparing a draft road transport policy regarding this matter as well.

Meanwhile, the ministry is also cooperating with UNDP to build five EV charging stations, while also dealing with private firms to build some on the expressway and 10 others across the nation.

According to a recent CBRE report, EV usage will account for about 30% of new car sales in the next 24 months in Cambodia.

The forecast is based on a project by MPWT to promote the construction and investment of infrastructure to support the use of EVs, such as car charging stations, and the storage facilities of after-use EV storage batteries.
