New Bassac River Crossing Surpasses 68% Completion as Project Moves Ahead of Schedule

The construction of the Bassac River Bridge connecting Chak Angre Krom and Prek Pra has entered a high-velocity phase, with total progress reaching approximately 68% as of April 20, 2026. According to Phon Rim, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the strategic infrastructure project is currently 6% ahead of its original development schedule, signaling a potential early boost for capital connectivity.

The bridge features a total length of 1,650 meters, anchored by a main river crossing of 845.70 meters and a roadway width of 27 meters. Complementing the main structure are approach roads measuring 804.30 meters in length with a standard 20-meter width, designed to integrate seamlessly into the surrounding urban landscape.

Detailed technical updates reveal that the project’s critical foundational works have achieved 100% completion. Significant progress is also evident in the substructure, which is 89% finished, while the superstructure has reached 28% completion. In terms of specific structural components, 132 out of 180 pre-cast T-beams and 156 out of 180 cast-in-place T-beams have already been finalized.

Beyond the main bridge structure, associated works are advancing across multiple fronts. The road network construction is 44.4% complete, while connection sections have reached the halfway mark at 50%, and ramp construction stands at 42%. These figures reflect a coordinated effort to ensure the entire facility is ready for its anticipated full completion by the end of 2027.

Once operational, the Chak Angre Krom-Prek Pra bridge is expected to be a game-changer for southern Phnom Penh, drastically reducing traffic congestion on the existing Preah Monivong Bridge. By providing a direct link between National Road 1 in Chbar Ampov district and the developing corridors leading to the Techo International Airport in Ta Khmau, the crossing will strengthen both economic and social ties within the capital region. This project, which broke ground in February 2024, remains a cornerstone of the government’s vision to enhance transportation and logistics efficiency across the Kingdom. (read more)
