NR5 Renovation Set for All Four Sections Completed by 2024

The rehabilitation project of the NR5 Battambang-Serey Sophorn section is 100% complete, while the other three sections are on track for completion by 2022, 2023 and 2024, respectively.

Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol unveiled the progress during MPWT LIVE SHOW held on 30 August.

“The NR 5 renovation project is divided into sections. The Battambang-Serey Sophorn section is completed. The Prek Kdam – Pursat and Pursat – Battambang are under construction, and scheduled for completion in 2022 and 2023, respectively,” said HE Chanthol.

“Meanwhile, for the section between Serey Sophon and Poi Pet, we are bidding for a construction firm, so the road construction is expected to be completed in 2024,” he said.

The renovation of NR5 has a total length of 366km connecting the capital to the northwestern part of the country passing through Kompong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey provinces.

The road will be upgraded to Asphalt Concrete (AC) and expanded to four lanes with a width of 23m. The project is being undertaken with a loan of US$500 million from the Japanese government.
