Expressway Builder Told to Replace Barbed Razor with Welded Wire Fence for Better Safety

The National Road Safety Committee (NRC) has proposed that the PP-SHV construction firm use welded metal wire fences along the expressway in replacement of barbed razor wire fences for safety purposes both for animals and commuters.

Minister of Interior Samdech Krala Hom Sar Kheng made the proposal in the meeting to review the results of road safety work for H1 2022 on 18 August.

DP Sar Kheng said that the barb razor fence is not enough to prevent animals from crossing and causing accidents.

“Thus, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the company should work together to find a better fence to effectively prevent animals from crossing,” he added.

The 190-kilometer US$2 billion expressway between Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville is scheduled to be put into trial use in October this year. (Read more)
