Phnom Penh Airport Railway Track Being Removed After Numerous Accidents

The Phnom Penh International Airport railway track section crossing the middle of busy Russian Boulevard is now being removed due to the absence of passengers and numerous accidents.

HE Ly Borin, under-secretary of state at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport in charge of railways, said on 03 December that Royal Railway had recently agreed with the ministry to remove this track section.

“The (current) airport will soon be moved to a new location. Moreover, during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have never run the train service. Leaving the rail track may make cause more danger to commuters. Thus, it’s better to be removed,” said HE Ly Borin.

The rail line connecting the city centre to Phnom Penh International Airport was officially inaugurated in April 2018. Back then, Royal Railway, a subsidiary of the Royal Group, also imported faster and modern high-speed trains to provide better services.
