Pipeline Installation Complete for Phnom Penh Flood Protection Improvement Phase 4

The underground installation of the interceptor pipeline system has been completed for the Phnom Penh Flood Protection and Drainage Improvement Project Phase 4. Meanwhile, construction is on track and is expected to be fully complete by 2021, according to JICA Cambodia last week.

According to the same source, the interceptor pipeline system has a total length of 1,552 metres. The Old Stadium to the underground reservoir in front of CDC has been completed, while the section from Northern Wat Phnom and Toul Kork is ongoing.

The non-open cut method is widely applied in an urban area with limited space. This method will help to minimise flooding and preserve the natural environment, according to JICA.

Funded by a US$36 million grant from the Japanese government, the project comprises of the construction of underground water storage, a water pumping station, a mechanical waste bin, and water pumping trucks.

Ground was broken on the project on 4 March 2019 by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen. (Read more)
