PM Urges Streamlined Airport Procedures to Boost Tourism

The head of the Cambodian government has directed relevant ministries and institutions to implement three key measures: (1) create a unified application process, (2) enable online visa fee payments, and (3) examine ways to reduce airport fees during the low tourist season to ensure a smoother arrival experience for tourists at the airport. This announcement was made by PM Samdech Hun Manet during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Samdech Preah Brahma Ratan Mony Pin Sem Museum in Siem Reap on 18 July 2024.

First, the PM has given the ministries and institutions a one-month deadline to integrate health, immigration, and customs procedures into a single online application, providing greater convenience for tourists.

Second, the PM emphasised the importance of allowing online visa fee payments, eliminating the need for tourists to queue at the airport. This measure aims to enhance the overall airport experience for incoming visitors.

Third, the PM advised studying the possibility of lowering airport fees during the low tourist season, even if it means a temporary reduction in government revenue. He also suggested that airlines carrying more than 80% of their passenger capacity should be considered for fare reductions, along with maintaining low landing and ticket prices to encourage travel.

Additionally, the PM instructed all relevant ministries and institutions to develop a comprehensive plan for 2025, focusing on attracting tourists to Siem Reap throughout both the high and low seasons.
