PM Hun Sen urges relevant officials to begin NR4 renovation project within this year

Prime Minister Hun Sen has urged relevant officials to wrap up the bidding procedure of the NR4 renovation project soon and if possible begin the construction within this year.

PM Hun Sen made the remark during the groundbreaking ceremony NR48 upgrading project on 3 January 2022.

The agreement to renovation NR4 was signed between Cambodia’s government and the World Bank three years ago. Currently, the bidding of three packages have been completed and the remaining two packages are scheduled to be completed this year.

According to the plan, the three packages that already have contractors will begin the construction first, properly within this year, while the remaining will follow later.

“Sometimes, I thought of injecting a national budget of US$200 to 300 million to upgrade NR4. However, this road is built by the United States, so we just have to wait for help,” said PM Hun Sen.

“Luckily, the World Bank has agreed to help and signed the agreement three years ago. I hope the bidding can be completed with 2022,” he added.

NR4 is 232km long connecting Phnom Penh capital to Sihanoukville, an important port city.
