Progress on the Final Section of National Road 5

As of early July 2025, the construction of the final section of National Road 5, stretching from Seri Sophon to Poipet, has reached an important milestone, with 32% of the work completed. This update comes from a report released by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport on July 8, 2025.

The final section of National Road 5, measuring 35.14 kilometers, began construction on November 22, 2023, with a budget of USD 52.56 million, supported by both the Cambodian government and loan assistance from Japan. This segment was the last to be bid on and subsequently commenced construction, which has contributed to its delayed timeline compared to other road routes. (Read more)

If the construction proceeds as planned, officials anticipate that the final section will be completed sometime in 2026. In the meantime, the ministry urges drivers using National Road 5 to exercise caution—a call for motorists to maintain manageable speeds in order to ensure their safety and minimize dust and mud that may affect fellow travelers.

Furthermore, it’s noteworthy that the preceding section of National Road 5, spanning from Prek Kdam to Battambang province, has recently been inaugurated after seven years of construction. This significant event took place on November 22, 2023, under the leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet. (Read more)
