Royal Railway Cambodia Successfully Tests New Train Lines for Phnom Penh-Poipet Route

Royal Railway Cambodia has successfully conducted a test run of four Kiha183-182 train lines on the Northern Railway from Phnom Penh to Poipet, signalling a major step towards resuming passenger services. The test, conducted on 25 July 2024, aimed to evaluate the railway’s readiness for passenger operations following a long suspension due to the COVID-19 crisis.

During the test, the technical team meticulously inspected the train’s undercarriage system, air conditioning, safety gates, and other equipment to ensure passenger safety. This thorough assessment is part of the company’s commitment to providing reliable and safe transportation services.

In addition to the successful test run, Royal Railway Cambodia has ordered five trains, comprising a total of 11 units, from Japan. These new high-speed trains, which will operate on the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh-Poipet routes, are expected to reach speeds of 90 to 110km per hour. This represents a significant improvement over the current maximum speed of 50km per hour (Read more).

The official launch of the passenger train line is anticipated soon, marking a new era of enhanced rail services in Cambodia.
