Samsung Group Wins Bid on US$11bn Airport Project in the Philippines

Samsung Group and European subsidiaries have won bids for an US$11-billion airport project in the Philippines, on which China bid only US$10 billion.

According to Nikkei Asia on 15 September, Sangley Point Airport is located south of Manila in Cavite Province, the Philippines.

It will be built by the SPIA Development Consortium, a subsidiary of South Korea’s Samsung Group.

Sangley Airport will compete with the US$12.97-billion San Miguel Airport operating in Bulacan, northwest of Manila, with a capacity to accommodate 130 million passengers a year.

China Communications Construction, a partner of MarcoAsia, previously won the US$10 billion deal, but later lost it in January 2021 due to failure to provide the required documents.
