Second Border Market Project Ready for Ground-Breaking in Kampot Province

The Ministry of Commerce and Kampot provincial municipality have finalised the location for a new border market in Kampong Trach district, with construction set to begin soon and is expected to be completed by mid-2022.

The ‘Prek Chak Border Market’ will be built on over 2 hectares in Thgov village, Russie Srok commune in Kampong Trach district. The location is nearby the Prek Chak-Kien Giang Cambodia-Vietnam border gate.

Minister of Commerce HE Pan Sorasak and Kampot Provincial Governor HE Chhev Tay inspected the site on Saturday 27 February to check the readiness for the upcoming groundbreaking ceremony.

As planned, the second border market will cost US$2 million from the government budget.

HE Minister Pan Sorasak called for cooperation between local authorities and the construction firm to complete construction of the border market on schedule.

Once complete, it will become the second border market after the first border market, located in Thbong Khmum province, was officially opened in February 2019.

A third border market will be built in Svay Rieng province, according to HE Minister Pan Sorasak.
