Seven U.S. Logistics and Tech Firms Explore Investments in Funan Techo Canal Supporting Infrastructure

Coordinated by the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia and CIB Deputy Secretary-General Sar Senera, discussions focus on statutory incentives, non-discriminatory protections, and supporting logistics projects along the historic waterway

A corporate delegation of seven leading American logistics and technology companies has expressed strong commercial interest in investing in supporting infrastructure projects for Cambodia’s historic Funan Techo Canal. The prospective investment interest was highlighted during high-level consultative discussions on September 11, 2026, between Dr. Sar Senera, Deputy Secretary-General of the Cambodian Investment Board at the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and representatives from the seven U.S. firms. Coordinated with the active facilitation of the Embassy of the United States in Cambodia, the meeting provided a targeted platform for American corporate leaders to examine national investment incentives and explore commercial alignment with the Kingdom’s landmark waterway.

During the consultative session, delegates from the American logistics and technology enterprises engaged in in-depth inquiries regarding statutory incentives, investment protections, and specialized business packages available under Cambodian law. The representatives formally expressed their intention to explore supporting projects that would enhance operational efficiency, digital logistics management, and supply chain services linked to the Funan Techo Canal.

Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Sar Senera emphasized Cambodia’s open and favorable investment framework, which guarantees non-discriminatory treatment, comprehensive legal protections, statutory incentives, and dedicated post-investment care for foreign capital. He outlined the Royal Government’s massive infrastructure modernization agenda, citing major ongoing developments including expressway networks, the deep-sea port expansion in Preah Sihanouk province, and the Funan Techo Canal. Dr. Senera reaffirmed that the Council for the Development of Cambodia remains fully prepared to provide comprehensive administrative facilitation to ensure the complete success of incoming U.S. investment projects.

The Funan Techo Integrated Water Resource Management Project represents a historic mega-infrastructure initiative designed to seamlessly connect Cambodia’s inland river system directly to the sea. Section 2 of the canal spans 151.6 kilometers, extending from Prek Po on the Bassac River in Kandal province to the coastal waters of Kep province. Upon completion, the multi-purpose waterway will serve as a vital national economic artery, dramatically lowering inland-to-sea transport costs and creating new special economic zones along its strategic corridor.
