Sihanoukville Attracts USD 487 Million in Investment with 48 New Projects

Sihanoukville’s economic transformation is gaining momentum, with the Cambodian government approving 48 new investment projects worth USD 487 million. These initiatives, announced by the Investment Promotion Working Group on 3 December 2024, are set to receive special incentives to stimulate local economic growth and business development.

The projects comprise 16 initiatives aimed at repurposing stalled buildings, 28 entirely new ventures, and 4 expansions of existing operations. Among the highlights are a special economic zone in the Prey Nop district, aluminum production and processing facilities, a household appliance manufacturing plant for European and American markets, and a new business community initiative in Ream town.

The working group also prioritizes resolving disputes related to stalled construction projects that have remained inactive for 4-5 years, enabling developers to reinvigorate these sites for productive use.

Since PM Hun Manet’s announcement on 31 January 2024, the Investment Promotion Working Group has facilitated 213 projects, addressing 101 stalled buildings, 89 new developments, 19 expansions, and four ongoing initiatives. This dynamic approach has paved the way for high-impact projects such as solar panel manufacturing, developing a 5-star commercial center, and establishing an agro-industrial park.

In particular, the government’s focus on addressing stalled buildings has revitalized significant portions of the city’s real estate landscape. Previously inactive properties are now being transformed into vibrant hubs for commerce and industry, aligning with the government’s broader vision for sustainable urban development.

As these efforts continue to materialize, Sihanoukville is poised to emerge as a leading hub for economic activity in the region, offering unmatched opportunities for businesses and investors alike.
