Singapore Building World’s Largest Automated Port Worth Over US$14 Billion

Singapore is building the world’s largest port worth over US$14 billion with construction scheduled to be completed in the next 20 years.

Named Tuas Port, it will stretch over an area of 1,337 hectares. Phase 1 of Tuas Port has just been completed with Phases 2, 3, and 4 to follow, according to a CNA report on 21 August.

The entire project is expected to be completed by 2040, the report added.

“When it’s fully completed around 20 years from now, Tuas Port will handle 65 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) annually, almost double today’s volumes,” said Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

“We will have the world’s largest fully automated port, and that should make us a leading global player in the maritime space” he added.
