South Korean Investors Set Sights on Cambodia’s Booming Cashew Sector

Led by the Incheon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, a high-level business delegation explores agro-processing ventures to add local value and boost global exports

A prominent delegation of South Korean business leaders is actively exploring fresh investment opportunities in Cambodia’s agricultural landscape, with a particular focus on the nation’s rapidly expanding cashew industry. The growing interest was highlighted during a courtesy meeting on May 26, 2026, between Cambodia’s Acting Head of State, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, and Park Joo Bong, Chairman of the Daejoo KC Group and President of the Incheon Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

During the discussions, Park emphasized that Cambodia has emerged as a safe and highly attractive destination for South Korean capital. He noted that the delegation is keen to establish operations in agriculture, identifying cashew nut cultivation and processing as high-priority areas due to the abundance of raw materials and untapped commercial potential.

In response, Samdech Techo Hun Sen welcomed the delegation’s interest and underscored that trade and investment remain the core pillars of bilateral relations between the two strategic partners. He explained that while the nation possesses ample agricultural resources, the government is prioritizing a shift away from exporting raw commodities. Instead, Cambodia is seeking international partners capable of setting up local processing facilities to add value domestically before shipping finished products to South Korea and broader global markets.

This engagement comes at a crucial time as the two countries expand their trade under the framework of the Cambodia-Korea Free Trade Agreement. With both nations fast approaching the 30th anniversary of the restoration of their diplomatic ties, officials express optimism about elevating economic cooperation to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
