Tbong Khmum Governor Courts Malaysian for High-Stakes Renewable Energy Venture

HE Cheam Chansophorn, Governor of Tbong Khmum Province, spearheaded discussions with the prominent Malaysian renewable energy powerhouse, Sunview Group Berhad, represented by its subsidiary Fabulous Sunview Sdn on January 15, 2024. The agenda focused on enticing the Malaysian giant to channel investments into transformative projects centered around renewable energy and poverty reduction within Tbong Khmum province.

The high-profile meeting, attended by distinguished figures such as His Royal Highness Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalillail, The Crown Prince of Perlis, H.E Cheam Chansophorn, Governor of Tboung Khmum Province, and Dato’ Sohaimi Bin Shahadan, The Director and Shareholder of Sirage Energy Sdn Bhd, also President of ASEAN Chamber of Commerce & Industry, witnessed deliberations aimed at unlocking the immense potential of Tbong Khmum.

In response to the compelling pitch by provincial representatives highlighting Tbong Khmum’s untapped opportunities, the Malaysian delegation expressed a strong inclination to invest in the province. A consensus was reached to embark on a groundbreaking project involving the establishment of renewable power stations with a generation capacity ranging from 100 to 500 megawatts. The proposed investment hovers between an estimated $100 million to $500 million, signifying a colossal commitment to bolstering the province’s energy landscape, as confirmed by HE Chansophorn to Construction & Property News.

The Governor shared optimistic insights on the outcome of the meeting, stating, “Secondly, the company has agreed to develop the project, but we are still in the process of acquiring formal agreement from the Ministry of Interior and the Royal Government to proceed with the project through legal means.”

The initiative leverages Malaysia’s engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) expertise in the realm of renewable energy. This ambitious undertaking not only addresses Cambodia’s growing energy demands but also signifies a monumental stride towards enhancing the nation’s clean energy infrastructure, according to sources within the Tbong Khmum Provincial Administration.

Expressing enthusiasm for this collaboration, HP Ong, Executive Director & CEO of Sunview Group Berhad, stated, “We are enthusiastic about this collaboration as it empowers us to expand our geographical reach beyond the local market.
