Electricite du Cambodge (EDC) recently announced an international tender for the implementation of a 60-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Kampong Chhnang province, reported Renewables Now.

According to the tender document released in early February, the bid for this project is on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis. The scope of the project includes the development, design, financing, and construction, and also includes a substation and the related transmission interconnection facilities.

After construction is completed, the successful tenderer will receive a long-term power purchase agreement with EDC and also receive the permit to do the operation and maintenance services as well.

The same source also reported that the deadline of the bids is set for 17 May 2019.

In response to the global warming issue, renewable energies such as solar power and hydropower have so far been the alternative choices for Cambodia. As promised in the Paris Agreement, Cambodia’s government aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 27% by 2030, and to increase forest cover to 60% of the national land area by 2030.

The Paris Agreement’s long-term goal is to keep the increase in global average temperatures to well below 2 °C above pre-industrial levels; and to limit the increase to 1.5 °C.
