Thai company wins 60 MW solar investment bid

Thailand-based developer and operator of renewable power Prime Road Alternative has won the public bidding on a 60-MW solar project located in Kampong Chhnang province, and will generate the lowest tariff in the Southeast Asia region.

The solar farm will be implemented under a build-manage-operation structure in cooperation with ADB.

According to the press release from ADB, Prime Road Alternative’s power tariff is at US$3.877 cent per kilowatt hour and won the bid from among 26 companies local and international bidders. As a result, the company will generate the cheapest electricity in the region.

The 60-MW project is part of a 100-MW National Solar Park and is structured as a public–private partnership.

EDC is providing the land and transmission access, while the private sector will provide power generation capacity based on a long-term power purchase agreement with EDC.

According to the Ministry of Mines and Energy, after signing the agreement with the bid-winning company, it will take at least 24 months to generate power.
